Can you recall the famous “Pom Pom Angels” episode from the TV show Charlie’s Angels? It originally aired in 1978 and featured the stunning private detectives going undercover to solve the perplexing case of three LA Bulldogs cheerleaders who went missing due to a religious cult’s fanaticism. The photo displayed here captures Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd, portraying Kelly and Kris, respectively, as undercover cheerleaders, while Kate Jackson’s character, Sabrina, pretends to be a choreographer. This episode emerged during the height of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ immense popularity.

Sammy Davis, Jr. was an incredibly talented individual, excelling in multiple areas. Despite never receiving any formal training in music or acting, he was a skilled singer, dancer, comedian, mime, and musician. He even studied tap dancing under Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson. In this picture from one of his appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, we can see his exceptional drumming abilities. Additionally, he played the piano, trumpet, and vibraphone. Davis’s immense talent helped pave the way for other black entertainers to break into the predominantly segregated entertainment industry of the 1950s and 1960s.

The movie Billy Jack, released in 1971, was a collaborative effort by actor Tom Laughlin and his wife, Dolores Taylor. Both of them played roles in the film, which was also conceived, written, directed, and produced by the couple. Laughlin’s educational journey took him from the University of Wisconsin to Marquette University, and eventually to the University of South Dakota, where he met Taylor. She was a graphic design student at the time, and they would later get married. While in South Dakota, Laughlin witnessed the mistreatment of Native Americans, an experience that deeply affected him. Inspired by these events, he wrote the screenplay for Billy Jack. The success of the first film led to the creation of two sequels: The Trial of Billy Jack in 1974 and Billy Jack Goes to Washington in 1976.

Contrary to popular belief, this photograph of Bob Dylan on his motorcycle in Woodstock may lead you to believe that he participated in the renowned three-day music festival in upstate New York. However, this assumption would be incorrect. Firstly, the Woodstock Music Festival actually took place in Bristol, New York, approximately fifty miles away from Woodstock. Furthermore, in 1966, three years prior to the Woodstock Festival, Bob Dylan encountered a severe motorcycle accident that nearly took his life. Seeking recovery, he relocated to Woodstock, a beloved destination for hippies situated in the Catskill Mountains. While he was in close proximity to the monumental festival, he deliberately chose not to perform, preferring to avoid the limelight.

It is interesting to note that Cheryl Ladd, in addition to her early work in Hollywood, provided the singing voice for one of the Pussycats in the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon Josie and the Pussycats. She also made appearances in TV shows such as The Muppet Show, The Partridge Family, and Police Woman. However, her breakthrough opportunity came when Farrah Fawcett decided to leave her role as Jill on the highly successful TV series Charlie’s Angels. In order to maintain continuity, the show’s creators cast Cheryl Ladd as Kris, Jill’s younger sister. Ladd portrayed the character throughout the entire duration of the show.

Cassandra Peterson fully embraced her creation of the seductive gothic character, Elvira. In the renowned 1988 cult film, Elvira, Mistress of the Night, she went even further by obtaining a specially designed car from the renowned George Barris. The 1958 T-Bird convertible underwent a remarkable transformation into the infamous ‘Macabre Mobile’. This extraordinary vehicle boasted a spider web grill, a unique hood ornament, and plush faux leopard upholstery. George Barris gained immense recognition for crafting personalized cars for affluent individuals and for their inclusion in various films and television series.

At the age of 19, the celebrated boxer Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, took part in an unconventional photoshoot in a Miami swimming pool. Photographer Flip Schulke had initially intended to sell the photos to Sports Illustrated, but the idea of an underwater boxer did not appeal to the editors. However, Life magazine expressed interest in the photographs. Although Ali was known to incorporate water training into his regimen to enhance his punches, he did not actually go underwater himself. Surprisingly, Ali was unable to swim and kept this a secret from Schulke. Holding his breath, he bravely posed for the now iconic image.

The 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers were an impressive team, according to any NBA enthusiast. They had an exceptional 33 consecutive win streak and remained undefeated throughout December of 1971 on their path to claim the championship trophy. These achievements were primarily attributed to the remarkable athletic abilities and leadership skills of three individuals: Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, and Elgin Baylor. While each player possessed outstanding talent individually, their collective strength created an overpowering force that captivated Lakers fans.

In May 1967, photographer Alec Byrne immortalized the historic moment when rock icons Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger crossed paths for the first time. This remarkable photograph was taken at the Top of the Pops Studio in London. Byrne recalled how he spotted Jagger discreetly observing Hendrix’s performance from behind a curtain. Jagger confessed he was “checking out the competition.” Byrne seized the opportunity to capture their initial encounter and managed to take a single photograph, preserving this significant meeting for posterity.

Did you know that Mitzi Gaynor, shown in a 1957 publicity photo for Les Girls, is now 91 years old and one of the few remaining stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood? Gaynor, who is talented in singing, dancing, and acting, began her successful career at the young age of 17. She appeared in numerous musical films such as My Blue Heaven, There’s No Business Like Show Business, Anything Goes, South Pacific, and many others. Her role in South Pacific catapulted her to international fame and even received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Notably, she was also a guest on The Ed Sullivan Show during the Beatles’ second appearance on February 16, 1964, where she performed between their sets.

Sophia Loren, depicted in this photograph alongside her mother Romilda Villani and her younger sister Maria, had a complicated family dynamic. When Romilda became pregnant, Sophia’s father, Riccardo Scicolone, refused to marry her, leaving her to fend for herself financially. Despite this, Scicolone still remained involved in their lives. In 1979, a photo was taken depicting an unexpected pairing: American blues artist Bo Diddley and British punk rock band, The Clash, hanging out on a tour bus. Bo Diddley, whose real name was Ellas McDaniel, was known for his eclectic style. He skillfully incorporated African rhythms, hambone beats, and traditional blues elements into his music, playing a crucial role in the evolution of rhythm and blues to rock and roll. This influence extended to numerous artists, such as the Beatles, Elvis, the Rolling Stones, and of course, The Clash. When The Clash embarked on their U.S. tour, they invited Bo Diddley to join them as their opening act.

Despite her apparent success, actress Patty Duke’s life was filled with turmoil, particularly during her time as a child star. At just eight years old, her parents entrusted her care to talent managers John and Ethel Ross, who shamelessly exploited her. They not only took a significant portion of her earnings but also fabricated her resume and attempted to portray her as younger than she truly was. Despicably, they forced her to consume alcohol and prescription drugs to keep her compliant and subjected her to various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, and sexual. As she grew older, Patty Duke was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has since dedicated her efforts to advocating for mental health.

Senator Edward Kennedy and his wife, Joan, are captured in this photograph during the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As a member of the renowned Kennedy political dynasty, which tragically included John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy, there were great expectations for Edward Kennedy’s political future. Many hoped that he would follow in the footsteps of his brother, John, and ascend to the highest office in the land, the White House. However, in 1969, Edward Kennedy’s aspirations were shattered when he was involved in a devastating car accident known as the Chappaquiddick incident. Tragically, a young woman, who was not his wife, lost her life in the incident. Shockingly, Kennedy failed to report the accident and even left the scene. This detrimental event ultimately destroyed any chances he had of ever becoming president.

Despite starring as friends in the 1972 Western buddy film, Pocket Money, it is rumored that Paul Newman and Lee Marvin did not have a harmonious working relationship during the production of the comedy. Gene Siskel, a renowned film critic, criticized the performances of Newman and Marvin, deeming them “completely self-indulgent” and awarding the movie zero stars. These negative reviews may have been a result of the tension between the actors off-screen. Another critic expressed that Newman and Marvin individually delivered impressive performances, but their on-screen interactions failed to convincingly portray their characters as the close buddies they were meant to be.

Taken in June 1963 at the Shelby American Shop in Venice, California, this photograph captures the meeting between race car driver and automotive designer Carrol Shelby and actor Steve McQueen. In 1970, he achieved an impressive second place finish at the Sebring 12-Hour Endurance race. This racing experience allowed him to showcase his skills in the iconic 1971 film, Le Mans, which has since gained a devoted following as a cult classic in the world of sports car racing.
